RDTFM, Right down the f***ing middle

Beer, Golf & Business. Three CPAs, three handicaps, one very serious leaderboard.

Three CPAs who each run a small firm crack open a beer, talk golf like it’s a second job, and dig into the real business advisory questions they see every week. The golf varies. The beer gets a score.

The show

Beer. Golf. Business.

Equal billing, most weeks. Some weeks the golf runs long. Nobody has filed a complaint.

Beer

In the glass

Each of us brings a beer and explains the pick. At the end it gets a score out of 10, decimals included, and it goes on the RDTFM Leaderboard permanently. That seemed like a good idea at the time.

Every episode gets into the latest rounds. Club championships, swing rebuilds, new drivers, and the shot on 14 we’d rather not discuss. We discuss it anyway.

Business

At the firm

Three small-firm owners work through a real question from our own practices. Cash reserves, S Corps, client concentration, pricing. General education, not advice for your situation. That part’s on your CPA.

This week the guys cover an Eagles meltdown in London, a membership audition round in Southern California, and how much cash a business should actually keep in the bank.

The round

How every episode plays

Same four holes every week. The scores change. The format doesn’t.

Same four holes every week. The scores change. The format doesn’t.

Hole 1

Pop That Top

Everybody cracks a beer and tells you what it is, where it’s from, and why they picked it. Sometimes the reason is the label. That’s rarely a good reason.

Hole 2

The Scorecard

A few minutes of golf. Recent rounds, swing fixes, new gear, and an honest accounting of what went wrong. Honest accounting is sort of our whole thing.

Hole 3

The Approach

The heart of the show. One of us brings a real business question from our own firms, and the three of us talk through how we’d think about it. We don’t always agree. That’s usually the good part.

Hole 4

The Final Pour

We score the beers on our 1–10 scale, decimals included, and they go on the RDTFM Leaderboard for good. No re-scoring. No appeals.

Hole 4

The Final Pour

We score the beers on our 1–10 scale, decimals included, and they go on the RDTFM Leaderboard for good. No re-scoring. No appeals.

The RDTFM Leaderboard

Every beer. Rated. Forever.

Each host brings a beer, and in The Final Pour it gets a score out of 10, down to the decimal. A 9 or 10 is the holy grail. A 5 is solid. A 2 means we’re looking for a polite way to pour it down the sink.

The Productive Pause, Swing Rebuilds, and the Best Red Ever

Welcome back to RDTFM, where Dalton, Chad, and Chris crack open a Day of the Dead double red, a local hazy, and a Lowcountry favorite. This week we're flipping the Approach segment on its head, trading the usual advisory scenario for a conversation about unplugging, leading better, and why stepping away might be the most productive thing a firm owner can do.

The fine print. RDTFM is for general information and entertainment only. It’s not tax, accounting, legal, or investment advice, and listening doesn’t make any of us your CPA. Your situation is your own, so talk to your own advisor before you act on anything you hear here. The views on the show belong to the hosts, not their firms. The language is explicit. And if you’re drinking along, be 21 or older and drink responsibly.
